Welcome to Pathway to Success: Nurse Preceptor Training. In this course, participants will learn about the roles and competencies associated with precepting nursing students. Information is provided on assessing student learning needs and how to foster a growth mindset.
About the Course
After completing this course, the learner will report an increase in knowledge of the nurse preceptor role to meet the learning needs of the student nurse.
After taking this course, the nurse preceptor will be able to:
Module One: 45 Minutes CE Credit
- Examine the roles, attributes, and responsibilities of the preceptor
- Describe the competencies of a qualified preceptor
- Analyze the benefit of serving the nursing profession as a clinical preceptor
Module Two: –xx– Minutes CE Credit
- Identify strategies for creating a positive learning environment
- Demonstrate clinical teaching strategies useful in assessing the learning needs of the student nurse
- Facilitate development of learning goals that fit the students’ needs and personal growth objectives
- Reframe common critical phrases to incorporate and promote growth mindset
Module Three: –xx– Minutes CE Credit
- Demonstrate clinical teaching strategies useful in coaching students to develop critical thinking and clinical judgement at the BSN level
- Utilize ways to increase students’ understanding of prioritization of care
- Discuss formative and summative evaluation techniques used in the clinical setting
- Identify methods of providing effective feedback and evaluation to the student and course faculty
Module Four: –xx– Minutes CE Credit
- Discuss strategies to promote professional communication
- Identify the opportunities to promote growth in professional socialization within the healthcare organization
- Identify opportunities for students to participate in collaboration with Interprofessional teams
- Discuss ways to create and enhance interprofessional practice environments

Resources are included in the content. The course is entirely self-paced with no required meeting times, so learners can proceed at their own rate and pause when needed.
